You know that awkward feeling you get when you’re told to say something interesting about yourself; and you can’t even remember a single thing about yourself, let alone something interesting? Well, that’s how I feel trying to write this About section; especially because I don’t know what this blog is going to entail.
This isn’t your typical blog (she’s not like most girls) because there is no set purpose. I’m creating this blog to be an outlet, an online journal essentially; because like the random girl in “Mean Girls,” (you know, the one that doesn’t even go here) I have a lot of feelings. This is intended to be an outlet to share my opinions and viewpoints, and I want it to be clear that I’m not trying to state them as facts. (Que Natasha Beddingfield’s “These Words).
Why Blogging
The idea of a blog began in 2020, during a post-tattoo happy hour session. I was explaining to my friend that I created a YouTube channel, (after years of wanting to do so) and it felt unnatural; which led to her proposing the idea of blogging. She mentioned that I was good with words, especially in the form of writing. I will say I love a good compliment, especially one I didn’t see coming; so I decided that I would give it a try.
It was at this moment that I realized that I’m kind of a perfectionist. I did hours of research on how to create a blog, brainstormed name ideas, purchased a domain, outlined post ideas….but never followed through on actually posting because nothing seemed good enough.
Three years later, here we are. I’m giving it the chance it always deserved (but with a lot less pressure). Welcome to As Told by Melissa, a collection of my thoughts.
Allow me to Introduce Myself
My name is Melissa (if that wasn’t obvious from my domain name). I’m 31 years old and I currently reside in Severn, MD. I’m an entrepreneur doing real estate at Remax Leading Edge in Annapolis, Maryland and I’m in the process of starting a stationery company. I have a 10 year old silky terrier named Sephora Chanel and I’m an auntie to a beautiful toddler named Andre. I think that’s all you need to know for now but you’ll definitely learn more about me from future posts to come.
