To ensure this year would be a good one, I decided to start it off by doing something abnormal. Tuesday, January 2nd, I made the decision to get a lip flip. This might not seem like a big deal but it was for me for a couple of reasons. Firstly, because I didn’t tell my family I was getting it done. I tell my family a good amount of things going on in my life, partly because I value their opinion and partly because I can’t keep a secret. I avoided telling my family about my decision because I knew they were going to tell me I didn’t need it (and I obviously don’t, it’s a want not a need) and because I didn’t want them to talk me out of it. I feel that getting a lip flip will give me more confidence and I can use any help I can get in that department.
Although I’m making it seem like this was a sporadic decision, I made this decision a couple of weeks ago. I accompanied my friend when she went to get Botox and asked about a lip flip and if I would be a good candidate. After receiving confirmation that I was, I made the appointment. I continued doing research on it up until my appointment and felt like it was the right decision.
Lip filler is hyaluronic acid injected into the lips and needs to be dissolved. It also lasts longer and costs more than a lip flip. A lip flip is Botox used to relax the muscles around your lips; it doesn’t last as long as filler and doesn’t cost as much. I also like that a lip flip is a more natural look as opposed to lip filler.
The lip flip process was quick and simple. I took before pictures, signed consent forms and then the injections began. She cleaned above my lip with alcohol and then gave me 6 injections (3 on each side) of jeuveau. (Jeuveau is what I consider to be the generic brand of Botox.)
Two days later, I began to feel and see the results. It was harder to drink out of straws and I noticed a more pouty appearance to my lips. I already liked the results I was receiving and looked forward to how they would look in the next couple of weeks.
As the weeks went on, I unfortunately didn’t see any additional results to my lips. I almost didn’t even see the results that I noticed the previous week because I had already gotten used to them. I attended my 2 week follow-up and the owner was also slightly disappointed in the results. I’m not sure why it didn’t give the results we all hoped for but I am happy to have the slight pout that I have now. Hopefully moving forward I can find the right formula to give me the desired look and size I want, but until then I’m going to continue with the lip flip and consider doing lip filler in the future.
